John Force and the PEAK Antifreeze & Coolant Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car led the JFR team with a semifinal finish Sunday at the NHRA Midwest Nationals in St. Louis. Brittany Force raced her way to the second round while Robert Hight had a first round exit.
After struggling in Funny Car qualifying, John Force came up with some big wins with Championship implications. Force had some luck in the first round when three-time champion Robert Hight idled to the finish line. Force would then run veteran Ron Capps in the second round, who was the points leader coming into the day. Force’s 0.039 reaction time was enough to beat Capps, even though Capps significantly outran Force with a 3.854-second pass to Force’s 3.970. In the Semifinals, Force would line up against long-time rival Bob Tasca III where Force’s day would end in tire smoke.
Brittany Force continued her consistency from Saturday’s qualifying in the first round of eliminations running the third quickest pass in Top Fuel history at 3.641-seconds at 337.66 mph to defeat TJ Zizzo. The victory set up a rematch with the NHRA Carolina Nationals winner Josh Hart where Force’s dragster would put a cylinder out down track giving Hart the win.
After a miss-stepped at the starting line against John Force in the opening round, Robert Hight stays tied with Tim Wilkerson in seventh in the Funny Car championship points standings.
