March PEAK Performer
In partnership with Speedway Illustrated, we are happy to announce the March PEAK Performer of the Month: Yogi Metz.
Yogi Metz is a 62 year old driver who was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2020. The illness included a softball-size growth. Four rounds of chemotherapy were ordered, so Metz used that time to help fellow racers. Even so, he planned to sell his race car and equipment. The day before Thanksgiving of the same year, however, he was able to ring the bell—Metz was cancer free.
Happy he didn’t sell his equipment, Metz returned to the driver’s seat in the spring of 2021 and capped an incredible return with a championship at Corrigan Oil Speedway. Full of momentum, Metz set his eyes on the newly-announced Senior Race Championship in the Vores Compact Prime Promotions Senior division, available to racers 55 and over. Metz donned that crown, too. Yogi Metz, two years of restored health and two championships.
"I feel blessed and lucky to have beat cancer and still be able to play with my race car especially being in my 60’s. I try to help the racing and motorsports community any and every chance I can.”
