NHRA: NHRA: Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals

Monday, March 11, 2024: Austin Prock finished runner-up in his NHRA Funny Car debut to pace John Force Racing Sunday in the season-opening 55th annual Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway in Florida.

Prock earned the number one qualifier honors in Funny Car Friday and held on to the top spot during Saturday’s qualifying. In Sunday’s eliminations, he got past his first three opponents before coming up short to number six qualifier J.R. Todd in the final round after Prock lost traction.

After starting the day with a win over John Smith in the first round, the 28-year-old Prock beat his boss, 16-time NHRA Funny Car champion John Force in the second round, then topped Chad Green in the semifinals, setting up the deciding match-up with Todd.

JFR CEO John Force in the PEAK Antifreeze & Coolant Chevrolet Camaro took out Cruz Pedregon in the open round to set up the battle with Prock in the second round. Prock leaves Gainesville second in the Funny Car standings while John Force is eighth.

In Top Fuel, Brittany Force had an early exit in the first round, losing to Billy Torrence after losing traction early in the run.

The next NHRA national event takes place in two weeks (March 21-24) with the NHRA Winternationals at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip in Pomona, CA.
