NHRA: PRO SUPERSTAR SHOOTOUT

February 12, 2024: The stars of John Force Racing joined their toughest competition in Florida for testing and the richest payday in drag racing history last weekend. The inaugural PRO Superstar Shootout at Bradenton Motorsports Park featured Austin Prock, in his Funny Car debut, taking the category win.

The event, an invitation only match race promoted by PRO (Pro Racer’s Owners Organization), began with a private three-day test session where each of the three JFR race teams led their respective class leaderboards during the event. Qualifying for the quarter million dollar to win PRO Superstar Shootout consisted of four rounds, with an evening session on Thursday night, followed by three additional rounds on Friday.

In both the Top Fuel and Funny Car classes, eight teams advanced including number one qualifier, Austin Prock as well as team owner John Force, who would start from the number three position in Funny Car. Brittany Force would miss the main event in the eight-car field in Top Fuel posting a best qualifying effort of 3.736-seconds.

Eliminations began Saturday under sunny skies in front of a sellout crowd at Bradenton Motorsports. Prock, driving the Funny Car tuned by his father Jimmy and brother Thomas, and team owner John Force, both won their opening round matchups to advance to the semifinals, where a chip draw determined that the JFR teammates would compete head-to-head in the semifinals.

This guaranteed a John Force Racing team would advance to the final round for a chance to win the $250,000 grand prize. Prock's 3.890-second elapsed time defeated Force's 3.914-second run in a close race.

In the finals, Prock and reigning world champion Matt Hagan would battle for the record purse. Despite this being his debut in Funny Car, the veteran Top Fuel racer showcased his expertise, outrunning Hagen for the win and the prestige of winning the Funny Car category at the richest payday in drag racing history.

After a solid test session in Bradenton, the John Force Racing team will prepare for the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida, the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series opener, March 7-10th.
